Every year, EESC gives the opportunity, in each 28 Member States, to choose three schoolboys /girls,
to go to Brussels with one of their teachers, work on a subject concerning youth people subjects, and simulate the work of the EESC Members, approving Opinions.
But, the text prepared and approved by all the students will be distributed among all the European Institutions and will be at the EESC web page for citizens, in general.
This year, 2014, the choice, in Portugal , was Escola Secundária de Loulé .
This school is the largest in Algarve, the truistic region in the south of Portugal. There are, attending schools ,
1 200 schoolboys/girls.
I was impressed because they have , as well, a delegation, a local group, of International Amnesty.
Because of the crises, and all difficulties of the schoolboys and their families, t
hey improved a section of volunteers to give some support to young boys and also to their families !
The "
Cantina", the restaurant of the school, gives, each day , around 500 meals, some completely free to schoolboys/girls who cannot pay, for some others at , more or less, 1 euro, and normal prices but extremely economic, to all the the others.
I just spoke about the different European Institutions and show they work, and, in particular,
EESC, the House of European organized Civil Society.
I informed the 3 young students, two boys and one girl,
Pedro silva,
Rosa Murtinha and
Rodrigo Sequeira, what is expected from them in Brussels, next 26, 27 and 28 March, working and taking advantage of all the friendship with all the other Member States students.
Here, some photos of some invited local persons, the School Director, Teatchers, the Regional Delegate and Director for Education, some representatives go the local Municipality, and myself.
A large number of Students and teachers attended this event, what was very nice , friendly and amazing for me and for EESC.
I presented the powerpoint prepared by excellent EESC communication Team, and a movie about last year
Your Europe, Your Say event and the video made by myself about Cais, the Civil society Prize portuguese homeless organization winner, whose candidature I prepared and presented to EESC in December 2012.
Presenting the powerpoint about YEYS
Also amazing was the
lunch with the chosen students, Professors and invited local representatives.
just because, the lunch was very good, with local food and specialities, local products and prepared inside the School by the students of some
vocational courses, professional units, this one concerning restaurants, hospitalitty and cooking, attended by many students from different European Countries ( young people from Stockolm, Vilnius, etc), and from Africa, the portuguese speaking countries - Cabo Verde, Angola, etc.
Lunch prepared by the students and saved by themselves
