Towards the Digital Horizon: Creating an inclusive digital future

Carlos Pereira Martins,  Member of  the European Economic and Social Committee,  will  participate  as  President  of the  TEN/426  Opinion, Digital Agenda for Europe,  next   8 th  to 10th  November,   in  Dublin,  in :

Towards the Digital Horizon: Creating an inclusive digital future
To mobilise action for digital engagement of all business and citizens.

This event is organised in the context of the EESC Europe 2020 Steering Committee's "going local" activities, as a follow-up to our TEN/426 opinion on the flagship Digital Agenda for Europe. In this context, the seminar will focus not only on the needs of people with limited access to the internet, but also on the needs of the many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Europe to exploit the full potential of the digital economy. This event is, therefore, aiming to bring together leading players from civil society organisations -including business, voluntary sector organisations, government, academia and others-  to highlight the importance of the matters at stake and to encourage them to collaborate in new ways to tackle these challenging issues.
The Irish Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources will address the event at 9:40 a.m.

Around  100  CEO-level leaders and activists representing Business, Education, Community, Sports and Government, from Ireland and the rest of Europe.
1) Survey of key invitees to identify main challenges we need to address. Survey will focus on digital engagement challenges: Access, Content and Skills.
2) First draft map of eInclusion / digital engagement ecosystem in Ireland - the various organisations and policies tackling the problem.
3) Identification of possible action themes for follow-up after the event, and possible leaders to facilitate/chair follow-up actions.
